Awards continued to be bestowed on Julius Erving even after his playing days were over. In 1993 he was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame, and in 1994, as part of its 40th anniversary, Sports Illustrated named him to a list of its 40 most important athletes. It was the magazine’s most prestigious honor in it’s 40 year history. In commemoration of the honor Erving received the offered Rolex watch. The two-toned stainless steel watch is engraved on the back plate, “SI’s 40th Anniversary Honoree 9-13-94”. The distinguised timepiece appears to be in fine condition, though not presently working. Accompanying the watch is a Sports Illustrated 40th Anniversary pin affixed to a yellow ribbon.
