The J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award is an annual NBA award given since the 1974–75 season to a player, coach, or trainer who shows "outstanding service and dedication to the community". It is the oldest citizenship and community service award in the NBA and is named in honor of James Walter Kennedy, the second commissioner (then president) of the NBA, who served from 1963 to 1975. The winner is selected by the Professional Basketball Writers Association (PBWA). Since its inception, the award has been given to 34 different players. Julius Erving was selected as the 9th recipient of the honor in 1983. He received this 9” by 12” wood plaque bearing a gold colored metal placard with engraved titling flanked by star ornamentation. Erving has signed this significant award in black sharpie on the front.

Includes a signed LOA from Julius Erving.
