Julius “Dr. J” Erving was considered a basketball pioneer in the fine art of slam-dunking a basketball. The 6’ 7” small forward’s acrobatic drives to the basket and thunderous dunks over opponents kept ABA and NBA fans alike on the edge of the seats throughout the 1970’s as well as the ‘80s. He won league titles in the ABA with the New York Nets in 1974 and ’76 before arriving in the NBA as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers and delivering a team title to the City of Brotherly Love in 1983.   This lot features a classic, limited edition (#163/200) color 16” wide by 20” high autographed photo of Dr. J floating toward the basket while wearing his white Converse All-Stars with red trim ready to deliver yet another slam dunk during a game with the Sixers at the now defunct Spectrum in Philadelphia. In fact, the facility was demolished between Nov. 2010 and May 2011. The artistically framed and matted photo, courtesy of Upper Deck Authenticated, measures 22” wide by 26” high. Dr. J, who retired following the 1986-87 season, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. Includes LOA from UDA (hologram # BAF 03078). Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
