Hondo was in pretty heady company when he was presented with this nearly 10-lb. bronze trophy in the spring of 1975 on the Bob Hope television special. The Gillette Cavalcade of Champions, hosted by Hope and Barbara Walters, with guests David Janssen, Steve Allen, Dyan Cannon, Eva Gabor, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Alan King, Dean Martin, Jennifer O'Neill and Tony Randall, presented trophies to award recipients Muhammad Ali, John Havlicek, Olga Korbut, Archie Griffin, Bobby Orr, Lou Brock, Johnny Miller, Ken Stabler, Sandra Haynie, Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert. Havlicek's trophy is 22 inches high and features a classic sculpture of an Olympic athlete holding the wreath. The words "Gillette Cavalcade of Champions 1974 Award" appear in raised letters on the base of the bronze piece, which in turn is mounted on a 6-inch square and 1-inch high wood base. A 4-inch brass nameplate mounted to the front of the wood base says "Outstanding Achievement in Professional Basketball, John Havlicek." The Gillette Cavalcade of Champions was arguably one of the most important sponsors of television sporting events of the postwar era, with a particular emphasis on boxing. The trophy appears to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from John Havlicek.
