On April 15, 1947, in one of the most anticipated events in baseball history, Jackie Robinson donned his Brooklyn Dodger uniform, trotted out to the field against the Boston Braves and, in one fell swoop, obliterated the color line that had barred black players from playing major league baseball. Much has been written about the impact of that day and Jackie's role in everything from sports in America to the dawning of the civil rights era, but suffice it say that no single baseball player in our history had as much impact on our country and in our culture than Jackie Robinson. This Robinson single signed baseball is among the finest condition examples known in the marketplace, evidenced by its NM-MT 8 overall grade by PSA/DNA. Jackie's radiant side-panel autograph, "Best Wishes, Jackie Robinson", appears perfectly framed within the horseshoe-shaped ribbon of the baseball's red seams. The snow-white surface of the unofficial Worth brand ball accentuates the vibrant ink produced by Jackie's pen. PSA/DNA has deemed the autograph to be MINT 9. The ball itself has been graded NM 7, for an overall rating of NM-MT 8. Only one Jackie Robinson single exists with a higher technical grade (8.5). That ball was sold at auction for $28,457 in 2007. LOA from PSA/DNA (Graded NM-MT 8).
