After breaking baseball's color barrier and winning over the naysayers who doubted both his talent and will to succeed, it didn't take long for the courageous Jackie Robinson to win over the boys on Madison Avenue as well. Smaller, local advertisers also lined up to reap the rewards of the intelligent, good-natured spokesperson as evidenced by this attractive poster promoting Charles Cornish Garage in 1952. The charter bus transportation company, based in Cambridge, Md. as the ad piece states, features an 8" x 10" color image of Jackie with his facsimile signature in black framed within a 10" x 16.5" cardboard backing. At the bottom is a monthly tear-off calendar starting with January 1952 and going all the way through December. The piece comes equipped with a purple string for hanging on one's wall. Significant edge and corner wear along with some creasing, a large tear on the top right corner, and a missing bottom right corner section put its condition in the GD/VG range. Accompanying the advertising poster/calendar is a 1954 Topps #10 Jackie Robinson baseball card in raw, ungraded PR/FR condition. Nice pairing of the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Fame legend.
