When the Lou Gehrig biopic “Pride of the Yankees” was filmed in 1942, there was only one man alive who would play Babe Ruth –Babe Ruth himself! The Babe was no stranger to the silver screen, having had parts in movies dating back to the silent era. Ruth, who had been retired for seven years by the time production started, none the less played his much younger self as only he could. This very evocative portrait was taken of the Babe on set during the filming of this baseball movie classic. Once again donning his Yankees pinstripes and “NY” cap, Ruth strikes a heroic pose for the photographer.

This iconic photo has been used for many publications and seen in many stories mentioning Ruth. Ruth later would go on to sign some of the copies made from this photo making this original even more special. Measuring 8x10, the photograph shows an incredible sepia tone and is absolutely gorgeous. It is as crisp as can be with the only issue being some light staining in the lower left corner that blends in perfectly with the rest of the toning of the photo. The reverse shows some adhesive staining and is free of any writing or stamping. A stunning photo of Ruth taken on the set of one of the greatest baseball movies of all time. The photograph his been encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
