A speedster out of San Diego High School, Irvine “Cotton” Warburton brought his speed to the USC Trojans football team, and was chosen as an All-American quarterback in 1933. Warburton, in fact, was the quarterback during a winning streak that lasted for 27 games, which remained unsurpassed at USC until 1980. This lot includes a National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame certificate that was awarded to Warburton upon his election on January 10, 1975. The award states: “Irvine ‘Cotton’ Warburton, USC Quarterback 1932-34, has been granted the highest honors of the National Football Hall of Fame, in recognition of his outstanding playing ability as demonstrated in intercollegiate competition, his sportsmanship, integrity, character and contribution to the sport of football, this certificate bears witness that his name shall be forever honored in the National Football Hall of Fame.” The framed certificate measures 19” wide by 25” high and is signed by Fred Russell, former Chairman of the Honors Court of the National Football Hall of Fame.
