Howard Cosell was an American sports journalist who was widely known for his blustery, cocksure personality. Cosell once said of himself: "Arrogant, pompous, obnoxious, vain, cruel, verbose, a showoff. There's no question that I'm all of those things." He was also a boxing commentator who followed the career of one Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali closer than most. This lot includes a red Everlast 12-ounce boxing glove that’s been autographed by Cosell in black marker and personalized “To Bruce.” It also includes an autographed and personalized copy of Cosell’s 390-page autobiography aptly entitled “Cosell.” Cosell has signed and dated the book on the inside front cover: “10/2/73 To Bruce, With my best wishes, Howard Cosell.” The autograph and personalization on the boxing glove is slightly smudged while the autograph on the book rates 9/10.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

Includes Letter of Provenance from collector Bruce Tennen.

Bruce Tennen's passion for Tigers baseball as a boy eventually lead him to pursue a career in the sports industry, covering Arizona teams as an AP journalist in the late 70’s and working in the front office for the San Diego Clippers in the early 80’s. He would later move on to a successful career in mortgage banking, arranging credit and acquisition funding for numerous Pistons players, executives and broadcasters. Bruce has been fortunate enough to build relationships with dozens of professional athletes and team executives, giving him the connections necessary to build his impressive collection.
