From one of the most anticipated pitching matchups in World Series history comes this historic image of Bob Gibson throwing the first pitch of the 1968 fall classic. Gibson's pitch to Detroit's Dick McAuliffe was a strike and the flamethrower played his very best while striking out 17 Tiger batters the remainder of the contest. Gibson only walked one batter along the way to his 5 hit complete game shutout. Fans at Busch Stadium were ecstatic but Gibson and the rest of his Cardinals team mates would end up losing the series in 7 games. The historic image captures Gibson at the end of his throw and the ball in mid air on the way to the strike zone. Typical age and crazing on the front is evident and reverse has the UPI stamp with a handwritten caption of the event depicted on the photo. An outstanding 8" x 10" original photograph encapsulated and graded PSA/DNA TYPE I.
