From the depths of the National League standings to near-miss heartbreaks, the Chicago Cubs have competed in vain for more than 100 long years since last claiming a world title. Thus, we fail to recall that prior to this lengthy drought, the spoils of October were once repeatedly the fare on the North Side. Here offered is a World Series treasure from a long-since forgotten era when "next year" was always "this year": a lapel pin bestowed upon Cubs third basemen Heinie Zimmerman for his contributions to the 1908 Fall Classic championship team. The lapel pin was then attached to a 14k gold heart shaped pendant (with necklace) by Heinie Zimmerman and given to his then girlfriend Bertha Noe, who would later become his wife. The 14-karat gold charm shows the team mascot perched upon its throne (in this case, a globally themed baseball). On the ball, "09" appears in raised numerals—as the Cubs reigned as World Champions until they were unseated at the end of the 1909 season. Crossed bats appear behind the bear and, accenting the piece in stunning fashion, a genuine diamond is centered on the mascot's lap. Commemorating the beloved franchise's century-old achievement, this is one of the few remaining physical links to that 1908 title.
