Harry Smith anchored the line from the guard position on the University of Southern California's Rose Bowl football teams during the 1938 and ‘39 seasons, and earned All-America honors both years. This lot includes a National Football Hall of Fame certificate that was awarded to Smith upon his election on January 21, 1955, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The award states: “Harry Smith, USC All-America Guard, 1938 and 1939, has been granted the highest honors of the National Football Hall of Fame, in recognition of his outstanding playing ability as demonstrated in intercollegiate competition, his sportsmanship, integrity, character and contribution to the sport of football, this certificate bears witness that his name shall be forever honored in the National Football Hall of Fame.” The framed item measures 19” wide by 25” high and is signed by Bill Cunningham, Chairman of the Honors Court, National Football Hall of Fame.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
