This Uniform Player’s Contract display brings together two of the greatest sluggers the game has ever seen – Hank Greenberg and Ralph Kiner. What is curious about this duel-signed contract is that both men are represented in their post-career capacity -- Greenberg as the Cleveland Indians General Manager and Kiner as the GM of the San Diego Padres, one of the Tribe’s farm clubs. The contract sends pitcher Bud Daley to the Padres and is one of the last Indians transactions handled by Greenberg as he sold his shares and resigned during the ’57 season. That Kiner is represented during his short stint as Padres GM is interesting because it was in San Diego that he began his broadcasting career, a job forced on him when he could not find a suitable play-by-play man. As for Bud Daley, he quickly made it back to the majors and won a pair of championships with the Yankees.

This contract has been professionally matted and framed with a pair of classic trading cards of both Hall of Famers: Greenberg’s 1934 Goudey and 1940 Play Ball and Kiner’s 1953 Topps and 1954 Bowman. The four cards appear in VG – EX condition range, adding a nice value booth to this lot. (We did not open the back of the frame to check the backs of the cards, but they do not appear to be taped or glued to the matting.) The contract shows good use with folds, edge wear and ink stamping, and both stars have signed in strong black pen. The colorful cards are ungraded and display nicely.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
