Since World War Two no player has epitomized National League baseball in New York City like Gil Hodges. Hodges not only starred with the Dodgers as a slugging first baseman from 1948-57 but also lived in the city of Brooklyn as well. Though well past his prime the fledgling New York Mets selected Hodges for their new team during the 1962 Expansion Draft. In 1968 he took over as manager of the Mets a team that had never won more than 66 games. In 1969 he led the "Miracle Mets" to 100 victories and the World Championship. Tragically his brilliant managerial career was cut short suddenly when he passed away right before the 1972 season. The offered Gil Hodges 1962 New York Mets jersey is complete and unaltered. #14 on the back. "14-1962" stitched in the collar. Wilson size 46 tag on front tail. Mets patch on left sleeve. Jersey shows good game use with a little staining on the back mainly above and behind the Mets patch. About a 1/2" and 1/4" part of the blue of the number on the back has become separated from the orange stitching outline. LOA form consignor who obtained the jersey while a minor league player in the New York Mets organization at the Mets Complex in St. Petersburg Florida during Winter Ball in 1968. LOA from MEARS (Grade A8.5).
