Gaius Ray “Gus” Shaver was an All-American collegiate football player. He played both quarterback and fullback for the USC Trojans football teams from 1929 to 1931. He was a consensus All-American in 1931 and led the Trojans that year to a national championship. This lot includes two specially framed certificates recognizing Shaver’s on-field performances. The first is an official All-America Board of Football award honoring Shaver’s selection as a member of the 1931 “All America Football Team.” The matted and framed certificate measures 18” wide by 22” high. It includes the signatures of five dignitaries including Christy Walsh and Glenn “Pop” Warner. The second certificate was awarded to Shavers from the esteemed Helms Athletic Foundation “For Noteworthy Achievement in College Football” as chosen by the Helms Hall Board. The framed item measures 25” wide by 18” high and includes the signature of Paul H. Helms, chairman of the Helms Athletic Foundation.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
