Circa 1931 USC Football playbook loaded with well over 100 plays that once belonged to All-American quarterback Gaius "Gus" Shaver. Shaver played both quarterback and fullback for the University of Southern California Trojans football team during his college career from 1929–1931. In 1931 he led USC to a 10-1 record and the National Championship. He was a consensus All-American and led the Trojans to their first victory ever at South Bend, ending Notre Dame's 26 game winning streak. January 1, 1932 he led the Trojans to a win over Tulane in the Rose Bowl. All the different plays are identified and diagrammed. Shaver's name and address are printed twice inside the playbook along with some of his doodling and what is probably his mother's address. Book still in overall good condition with the leather cover showing the majority of the wear. Inside play pages are in great shape. Amazing piece of USC football history from one of the great stars of the past! Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.
