Official American League Ban Johnson Baseball stamped 1909 which was used in the last out in Game 6 of the 1909 World Series between Honus Wagner's Pittsburgh Pirates and Ty Cobb's Detroit Tigers. A contemporary newspaper account describes the final out "...and Moriarty suffered a severe muscle bruise in holding Wilson off third while he took a throw from Schmidt on an attempted steal that ended the game." Moriarty kept that ball and printed across the sweet spot "LAST BALL IN PLAY-DETROIT VS. PITTSBURG-SIXTH GAME WORLD SERIES 1909 OCT. 14TH-WILSON TAGGED OUT STEALING THIRD ENDING GAME-SCORE DETROIT 5 PITTSBURG 4". On a side panel is printed "PROPERTY OF GEO. MORIARITY". Ball shows tremendous amount of game use but both inscription and markings are very readable. Also included is a vintage used photo postcard of the 1909 Detroit Tigers actually postmarked the same day as this game-October 14 1909 and a copy of a newspaper article about the game from that day. Incredible piece of baseball history symbolizing the heralded Series match-up that featured Wagner vs. Cobb bolstered by impeccable player provenance.
