The 2021 Atlanta Braves did the improbable, winning the franchise’s first World Series title in 26 years in six games over the Houston Astros. Coming into the postseason, no one outside of Atlanta thought the squad that won just 88 games in the regular season would come out on top. Not only did the Braves do just that, but the team did it in dominating fashion. The clinching Game 6 was never close, a contest the Braves absolutely dominated in 7-0 fashion.
After losing in Game 5 in Atlanta, the Braves were forced to head back to Houston for Game 6. Starter Max Fried took the mound after a disappointing performance in Game 2 in which he allowed six runs in just five innings. In Game 6 Fried was feeling it and dealing, though. He allowed just four hits in six dominant innings, setting the stage for the Braves sizzling offense to shine.
The Braves were still shutting out the ‘Stros 6-0 in the top of the seventh inning when Freddie Freeman, the face of the franchise, stepped to the plate. Freeman already had an RBI double in the fifth inning and was looking to deliver the dagger. He put the cherry on top of the victory for Atlanta, firing the third pitch he saw 416 feet to put the Braves up 7-0. The Braves would never relinquish a run and went on to win the game and the Series by that score.
The lucky winners of the 2020 NL MVP’s 2021 World Series homer were young cousins Hudson Pace and Steven Edwards. After Freeman’s ball bounced off a railing and back into the field of play, the pair asked Astros outfielder Jose Siri to toss them the ball. He did just that, and now that thrilling big fly has been hit into our auction.
The final homer of the 2021 World Series was an exciting exclamation point on the first baseman’s 12-year career up to this point. Freeman is currently a free agent and has seen all the highs and lows of the past decade of Braves baseball. If this was his final at-bat with the organization that selected him back in 2007, there is no better way to go out than on top.
