May 14, 1861 Presidential Military Appointment signed by both President Abraham Lincoln and his Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. With the attack on Ft. Sumter about a month before, Lincoln was probably signing many of these commissions as he called forth on the nation to supply an army to put down the boiling rebellion. Very nice 8/10 vintage steel tip fountain pen black ink signatures. 14 1/4" by 17" visible portion of commission looks to be in great shape with just the unusual folds. Beautifully framed to a size of 25" by 28".
