The Santa Margarita Invitational Handicap is an American Grade I Thoroughbred horse race run annually around mid-March at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. An invitation race for fillies and mares age four and older, it is contested on dirt over a distance of one-and one-eighth miles. This lot features the winning trophy produced by Tiffany & Co. that was awarded to the team of “Lady’s Secret” from the 1986 event.

Standing 13.25” tall, the two-handled, gold-washed sterling silver trophy cup sits atop a heavy green marble base that sports an engraved gold plaque reading: “February 23, 1986, One & One-Eighth Miles, Won By LADY’S SECRET, Mr. & Mrs. Eugene V. Klein, Owner, D. Wayne Lukas, Trainer, Jorge Velasquez, Jockey, Time: 1:47.” The front of the two-handled trophy is engraved “SANTA MARGARITA HANDICAP” and those words are centered above the engraved logo of Santa Anita Park. The whole trophy including the base weighs 18 pounds; the sterling silver cup alone weighs 1,558 grams. Some tarnishing is evident on the outside of the trophy cup as well as on the engraved plaque. Bottom of cup hallmarked "Sterling Silver" by "Tiffany's & Co."

Includes Letter of Provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
