Honus Wagner has become a hobby icon through a combination of true greatness and mythical circumstance. Even to those unfamiliar with the history of our National Pastime, his name has come to symbolize unparalleled excellence. Any single signed Honus Wagner baseball is special. One of this caliber is simply extraordinary.
This unused red and blue stitched Honus Wagner brand ball bears the Flying Dutchman's bold black fountain pen signature and notation "Pirates 1937" perfectly placed on the side panel just flirting with the sweet spot. The ball has been guarded against the ravages of time by its original box (a nice artifact in its own right) and remains off-white with only minor signs of handling.
Anyone serious about building the ultimate collection of singles from the inaugural Hall of Fame inductees has found their cornerstone. In spite of his graciousness and relatively long life, very few truly high-quality Wagner singles exist in the hobby. We believe that this is among the finest single signed Honus Wagner balls known. The signature rates about 8/10 in our opinion, ball is EX-MT, and box is EX (missing the top). Ex-Barry Halper.
