This Official American League Uniform Player's contract between Elston Howard and the New York Yankees, dated February 7, 1961, has been signed in blue ink by both "Elston Howard" (9/10) and Yankee executive Roy Haney. The four-page fold-over contract calls for Howard to receive a one year salary of $29,000. Howard, a nine-time All-Star and the first black ballplayer in Yankees history, posted one of the finest seasons of his career in 1961, with his .348 batting average representing the second-highest mark in the Junior Circuit. The contract (8-1/2" x 11") exhibits two horizontal fold lines and is in Near Mint condition. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
