The late great Diego Maradona is widely considered one of the best footballers of all time and certainly sits on the throne in Argentinian football lore. The legendary player was named alongside Pelé as a joint winner of the FIFA Player of the 20th Century Award. The striker was a staple on Argentina’s national team for a decade, leading his home country to a World Cup victory in 1986. In the quarterfinal against England that year, he scored two historic goals in a 2-1 Argentina victory. The first goal is known as the “Hand of God” and the second was voted “Goal of the Century” by FIFA.com in 2002. The always adored icon was nicknamed “El Pibe de Oro,” or “The Golden Boy.” The "Hand of God" game worn jersey just sold on May 4, 2022 for a whopping $9.28 million and certainly elevates all Maradona gamers in the market.

Featured here is an early career game worn shirt from Maradona’s time with Boca Juniors, an Argentine football club known for being the most successful team in the country with 71 official titles. The jersey is accompanied by a letter of provenance stating that Maradona “wore this shirt in several matches” in 1981, the year he won his lone league title with the team. The Adidas blue and yellow jersey has Maradona’s felt number 10 applied to the back and it exhibits heavy use, with lots of soiling and discoloration throughout. The shirt is also autographed and inscribed “Con Cariño” ["with love"] by Maradona. The jersey comes with a full LOA from MEARS graded A10, a letter from the man for whom Maradona signed the shirt, and a full LOA from Beckett for the autograph. Includes a high-resolution photograph of Maradona holding the jersey after signing it in 2013.
