By the time Carl Yastrzemski was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year on Christmas Day 1967, he had already established himself as one of the premier outfielders in the game. His 1967 campaign was definitely his best, even by his lofty standards. Yaz won the Triple Crown and AL MVP that season. He had a .326 batting average, 44 home runs and 121 RBIs. That was the last time a major league hitter won the Triple Crown until Miguel Cabrera in 2012. He was honored on this Sports Illustrated cover for his achievements. The magazine was graded a 9.0 by CGC, serving as the highest graded copy in the magazine authenticator’s population report.
