In July 1960, then-23-year-old Dodgers pitching great Don Drysdale recorded six straight victories from July 3rd to July 31st. He mowed down, in succession, the Pittsburgh Pirates (6-2) and recorded eight strikeouts; Chicago Cubs (7-1), eight K’s; San Francisco Giants (5-3), five K’s; Philadelphia Phillies (2-0), 14 K’s); Cincinnati Reds (2-0), six K’s; and the Milwaukee Braves (7-5), six K’s. For his efforts, Drysdale was named “National League Player of the Month” by the N.L. Baseball Writers and Broadcasters Assn. This lot features the engraved, sterling silver award that he received which measures 11.75” in diameter. The front of the serving tray reads: “Presented to DON DRYSDALE Los Angeles Dodgers in Recognition of Being Names National League ‘Player of the Month’ for July 1960 by N.L. Baseball Writers and Broadcasters.” It is engraved with the signature of National League President Warren Giles.
