In 1962, L.A. Dodgers’ right-hander Don Drysdale turned in a phenomenal season in which he not only the league in wins (25), strikeouts (232) and innings pitched (314.1), but was named to his fourth National League All-Star Team. He started for the Senior Circuit, in fact, and pitched three innings’ worth of shutout ball and struck out three A.L. All-Stars. The National League eventually prevailed, 3-1.
This lot offers Don Drysdale’s July 10, 1962, MLB All-Star Game Participatory Award. The 17” tall specially engraved and decorative silver-plated samovar (coffee urn) measures 11” wide and has the following text engraved on the front: “MLB All-Star Game, July 10th, 1962, Don Drysdale.” The base of the samovar, which is heavily tarnished, even boasts a small warming tray for a can of Sterno.
