In 1957, in just his second season of pitching for the Brooklyn Dodgers, right-hander Don Drysdale collected a team-leading 17 wins and 148 strikeouts prior to the team’s relocation to Los Angeles. The dominant, 6’ 5” pitcher also posted a 2.69 ERA in 29 starts, pitched nine complete games and threw four shutouts. This lot features a beautifully crafted trophy awarded to Drysdale by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (L.A. Chapter) on being named the Dodgers' “Sophomore of the Year” that season. The 12” tall award sports a white marble base upon which sits a silver vase that has been engraved with the following text: “DON DRYSDALE LOS ANGELES DODGERS SOPHOMORE OF YEAR 1957 – BASEBALL WRITERS ASSOCIATION LOS ANGELES CHAPTER AWARD.” Below the text is a raised green BBWAA emblem, while a raised medallion/emblem from the Helms Athletic Association is positioned near the top. The trophy weighs just over six pounds.

Includes LOA from the Drysdale Family.
