Long before he was winning World Series games for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the late Don Drysdale was a standout pitcher for his high school team, the Van Nuys Wolves in Van Nuys, California. The school’s campus, famous for the filming of such iconic movies as “Fast Time at Ridgemont High” and “Christine,” as well as several episodes of TV shows including “The White Shadow,” “The Wonder Years” and “Parenthood,” has also produced its share of celebrities including Drysdale, his classmate Robert Redford, Natalie Wood, Jane Russell, Marilyn Monroe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and even Paula Abdul.

This lot features Drysdale’s 1954 varsity letterman’s sweater from Van Nuys High School. The burgundy 100% virgin wool button-down sweater is in immaculate condition and includes Drysdale’s embroidered varsity letter sewn on to the bottom left front area which reflects that he played varsity baseball in 1952, ’53 and ’54. He posted a 6-1 record for the Wolves during his senior campaign. The inside back collar includes the “Awards Sweaters” manufacturer’s tag that’s positioned just above a separate sewn-on white cloth tag that includes his last name “Drysdale” chain-stitched in burgundy. The left sleeve sports three gray stripes on the biceps area. Two small pockets on front left and right sides complete the sweater. A remarkable piece of worn sports memorabilia from the formative years of one of baseball’s greatest pitchers in history.

Includes LOA from the Drysdale Family.
