This lot is truly one of a kind. How many other basketballs are out there signed by Michael Jordan and personalized to the late, great Pete Maravich? Our bet is none. The vintage Wilson ball is nicely autographed by a young Mike fresh out of UNC. How do we know? Because the style matches his rookie-era signature to a tee. In a black marker that has faded to a strength of 5-6/10, it reads “To Pistol Pete - Michael Jordan.” The regulation-size rubber basketball, with an NBA Commissioner David Stern endorsement stamp, shows some wear from aging and storage, coming in EX-MT/NM shape.
Pistol Pete died tragically in 1988 at the age of 40 when his heart mysteriously gave out while playing pick-up. The gym rat who could never get enough b-ball left this earth doing what he loved most. From one legend on his way up to another nearing the end of his days, this amazing piece includes a full LOA from Beckett (A17783).
