Presented here is an early 1980's era Baltimore Colts game used helmet autographed by running back Lydell Mitchell, who starred for the team from 1972-77. A member of the College Football Hall of Fame from his days at Penn State, Mitchell rushed for over 1,000 yards three-straight seasons (1975-77), making the Pro Bowl each year and earning two All-Pro nods. The helmet itself is attributed to defensive back Darryl Hemphill who wore #27 for the Colts in 1982.
The Riddell A.C.E.-1 pro-model gamer comes in size 7-1/2 with the Colts blue horseshoe decals on each side and a No. 27 decal on the rear. The original ear pads and chinstrap are intact as is all interior padding. It has a three-bar mask common among defensive backs and shows heavy wear with several scratches and gashes on the outer shell. A 1983 recertification sticker is affixed on the interior, indicating the helmet was likely worn the year prior and refurbished for future use.
Sourced from a local Baltimore collector. Mitchell's bold signature and "#26" inscription comes with a Beckett LOA.
