The recently passed Herb Orvis was a talented defensive lineman out of the University of Colorado who had a long NFL career, first with the Detroit Lions from 1972 to 1977 and then with the Baltimore Colts from 1978 to 1981. Presented here is a game used Colts helmet attributed to his tenure in Baltimore where he battled as a defensive tackle. The Riddell professional model AF2 helmet comes in size 7-5/8 with Colt logo decals on each side and Orvis' No. 88 decal on the rear. "82-88" is marked in pen just inside the right earhole. (Previous to Orvis, the legendary Colts tight end John Mackey sports #88.) The ear pads and chinstrap are intact as is all interior padding. It has a three-bar mask common among interior lineman and shows a good amount of use with contact marks on the outer shell. Great example of one of the earlier modernized NFL helmets. Sourced from a local Baltimore collector.
