When an adoring fan asked for his autograph, Muhammad Ali often felt compelled to leave that person with something extra. Usually that meant one of his artistic doodles of a boxing ring with him raising his arms in triumph. After all, he was and will always be "The Greatest of All Time." In this lot the GOAT has signed a 5-1/4" by 8-1/2" cardboard sheet in 9/10 blue ballpoint "To Keenan - Muhammad Ali" above a landscape drawing that is essentially open for interpretation. What might look like a ship passing through a narrow straight between two bluffs could be something completely different to someone else. The beauty of art lies within the eyes of the beholder.
According to the consignor, Ali signed this for her nephew Keenan in 1967. At that time the legendary boxer was in the beginning of a three-year hiatus from competition due to his military draft protest. Perhaps the illstration was symbolizing a man at the crossroads of his career standing between two mountains, one he had already climbed and one he would have to climb to get back on top. Whatever the case, it's another unique piece for boxing collectors. Includes full LOA from Beckett (A32030).
