In a game full of characters, Rabbit Maranville was one the biggest, no pun intended. Standing just 5’ 5”, Maranville was a non-stop jokester, offering glasses to umpires, throwing firecrackers at unsuspecting teammates, and dumping water on the heads of sleeping players. A talented shortstop, Rabbit helped lead the Boston Braves to a surprise victory over the Athletics in the 1914 World Series. Maranville spent 23 years in the National League, bringing his fielding talent and unbridled merry making to the Pirates, Cubs, Dodgers and Cardinals.

This 5x7" original photo shows Maranville at the start of his long career in the uniform of the Boston Braves. The photo displays some wear on its bottom corners and the image has taken on a nice patina with age. The back has the stamp from legendary photographer Paul Thompson and several “The Ring, Inc.” stamps plus “Maranville, ss Bost Nat” handwritten in pencil. Clean white borders with an overall NM condition. Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
