There is a story woven into baseball lore of the St. Louis Browns giving Nap Lajoie eight hits in eight at-bats to let him pull even with Ty Cobb for the American League batting title. League president Ban Johnson ultimately sided with the Georgia Peach and Chalmers auto company gave each man a car. Here’s Cobb in his new ride, very much dressed the part.
