In college, Sam Cunningham was a punishing fullback for USC who scored four touchdowns in the 1973 Rose Bowl, which still stands as a modern-day Rose Bowl record. Drafted by New England later that year, Cunningham went on to have a prolific nine-year playing career in the pros, all with the Patriots. Nicknamed "Sam Bam" he finished his NFL career with 5,453 rushing yards, 210 receptions for 1,905 yards, and 49 touchdowns. This lot includes his circa 1975 game-worn and signed Patriots white home jersey. The nylon/mesh No. 39 jersey (size XL) exhibits game use with multiple team repairs and includes the proper Medalist Sand-Knit manufacturer’s tag on the inside of the collar. Cunningham has signed the back on the jersey in black fine-point marker across the top of the number “3” and added his uniform number “39” to it. The signature has faded over time and rates a 5-6/10 in our book.
