Before fashion designers began re-inventing the signature look of the US Olympic team every four years, Team USA had a consistent uniform for several decades. Beginning with the 1928 games and lasting through 1960, the standard track and field singlet was white with a diagonal red, white and blue ribbon running from the right shoulder to the left hip. A Team USA shield patch sewn to the left chest completed this simple yet dignified jersey. This is a very good representative of this early style worn by Team USA.

The jersey singlet has a Wilson label sewn in the left front tail with a size “40” hand tag affixed. The piece shows toning from age throughout with some light staining. There is some perspiration staining inside the neckline. The red, white and blue ribbon has faded with age and there are some loose threads throughout.

Accompanying the singlet are two white v-neck Team USA Olympic sweaters. One has an Alps Sportswear label inside the collar and the second has a Puritan Natch label. Both have a variation on the Team USA shield patch on the left breast. Both show heavy wear with the Alps version having significant staining the left front chest. A good group of vintage Team USA Olympic wear.

This piece includes a signed letter of provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
