Nearly 100 years ago, George Burke made a living out of photographing major league ballplayers. As the official photographer for both the Chicago Cubs and White Sox in the 1930s, Burke became one of the most famous of all baseball photographers, and often shot visiting teams as well. This lot features one of his beautiful black-and-white photos of New York Giants Hall of Fame slugger Mel Ott, which was autographed by Ott with black ink. Taken of Ott holding a bat and crouching on the visitors’ dugout steps, the photo was snapped in the late 1930s. The photo measures four inches wide by six inches tall.
