From 1929 through 1951, photographer George Burke made it his mission to record the image of every single ballplayer who passed through the Major Leagues. This was an achievable task as teams in both leagues played in his hometown of Chicago. Almost every game saw Burke or one of his assistants roaming the field during batting practice snapping the picture of every new face they encountered. Burke’s vast archive grew to monumental proportions and many of his pictures gained iconic status through their use on baseball cards, newspapers and magazines.

Offered in this lot is a tremendous group of eleven circa 1933 New York Yankees player portraits taken by the renowned photographer. Each have Burke's official "GEO. BURKE 847 BELMONT AVE. CHICAGO" stamp on the reverse, with the player name and position handwritten in black pen (player name also typed at top) The borders of several are intentionally rounded, allowing for easier preservation. Listed in image order (left to right) are Lyn Lary, Henry Johnson, Don Heffner, Jess Hill, Jimmy Reese, Dusty Rhodes, Bump Hadley, Ed Wells, Jack Saltzgaver, Ivy Andrews and Joe Sewell (HOF), The 8" by 10" photos remain in outstanding condition, averaging EX-MT/NM in our humble opinion.
