Clyde Lovellette’s high school basketball career at Terre Haute’s Garfield High was marked by his many honors and achievements, all signified by the many pieces of insignia sewn onto his varsity sweater. The classic white wool varsity sweater has a purple Garfield High “G” on the left chest on which a basketball patch has been sewn. Two small exterior pockets are on the lower portion of the sweater and seven buttons close the front. The left sleeve has a gold, purple and white star below which are two gold and three purple chevrons and a single gold bar, all denoting a different athletic achievement during his high school career. The right sleeve has a purple patch in the shape of the state of Indiana on which “CITY WABASH VALLEY W.I.S.A.C. STATE RUNNER 46-47 UP has been embroidered in gold. A “100% All Wool” label is still sewn inside the collar. The sweater shows great use, with overall toning and some pulls and stretch marks to the wool. There are loose threads found throughout and the white wool has taken on a warm tone from age. A classic post-war varsity sweater belonging to one of the NBA’s early stars. Accompanied by an LOA from the family of Clyde Lovellette.
