The 1941 season was a glorious one for baseball, with heroes like Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio capturing the attention of a nation, fans innocently enjoying the accomplishments of baseball stars and pennant races. Later that year the USA was rocked into participation into World War II, but for that summer and fall all was good.
A particular highlight was DiMaggio's hitting streak and newpapers and radio broadcasts chronicled "The Yankee Clipper's" exploits at the plate. On his way to a mindbending 56 straight games of hitting safely, our understated hero Joe celebrated the 45 game milestone here. This surpassed the long standing 44 game mark held by "Wee Willie" Keeler.
PSA has authenticated and encapsulated this delightful image of Joe, who is posed with a strategically placed collection of bats.
