When it came to baseball powerhouses, you need to look no further than the mighty 1927 New York Yankees. Managed by the great Miller Huggins, the Bronx Bombers from that season earned a new nickname: “Murderers’ Row.” Armed with the bruising bats of both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, the Yankees’ starting lineup from ’27 launched a total of 151 home runs, but 107 of those round-trippers belonged to Ruth (60) and Gehrig (47).

This lot features a circa 1927 Official American League (Johnson) baseball that’s been signed by the major leagues’ original bash brothers. Ruth’s 6-7/10 signature in black ink graces the sweet spot of this heavily toned, evenly soiled baseball, while Gehrig’s autograph can be spotted on the north panel just above the sweet spot. The baseball sports several scuff marks and Gehrig’s last name appears faded. Still a remarkable piece from a remarkable period in baseball’s rich history.
