Beautiful condition World War II era service uniform worn by Detroit Tiger Hall of Fame second baseman Charlie Gehringer in exhibition games during his 3 years of service in the Navy. Gehringer volunteered for duty in 1942 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During the war benefit games were held to raise funds for worthy causes and help boost citizen's morale. Gray flannel Wilson size 44 jersey. "U S ALL STARS" on the front with "25" on the back, both in the same dark blue felt. Gray flannel Wilson size 38 pants along with the original black leather belt. Both jersey and pants exhibit light wear. There are a couple of light stains to the pants on the back to the left of the pocket. Included is the written response from Mrs. Gehringer to a previous owner wherein she states that "Charlie wore this uniform when he went to Japan in 1934". We believe the jersey NOT to be from that tour but rather from the 1940's, during Gehringer's World War II service days.
