The 1923 World Series was special for many reasons. First it pitted New York's and baseballs two top teams against one another the defending Champion New York Giants against their cross-town rivals the Yankees. The "new kids on the block" the Bronx Bombers were a team that boasted that season's best record while playing in the new Yankee Stadium baseballs largest venue. And of course they were anchored by the man who was not only becoming the biggest name in sports he was becoming an international legend! Game Six was the key game in that series. Over 36000 fans plus a full contingent of the New York press corps (including a descendant of this lot's consignor) was on hand. Excitement reigned! The confidant Yanks marched into the Polo Grounds the very home of the defending champs and with Babe Ruth leading the way by smacking a home run in the very first inning (Babes third for the series) the Bombers snatched the title away. They were truly the new Kings of the Diamond! Additionally this was the Babes first Championship as a Yankee and if that is not enough 1923 was his teammate Lou Gehrig's very first season in the majors. This extraordinary relic is a Box Seat Ticket from that memorable game signed by Ruth. The Babes signature is a solid ten (10) and it was happily placed by the Bambino in the one place on the entire ticket that is clear and perfect for displaying his prized signature. The stub itself is in wonderful shape with a minimal amount of paper loss and nary a wrinkle on it. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA with a signature grade of MINT 9. A letter of provenance from the family of the New York Sportswriter accompanies this lot.
