From Bret Saberhagen's personal collection comes this 17-inch high near-lifesize bronze bust of Babe Ruth by acclaimed artist and sculptor Palmer Murphy. Murphy's work is well known within the sports memorabilia hobby, including producing a number of different busts and even some of the "modern" Hartland statues, but these spectacular bronze pieces issued by the Hall of Fame remain among his most notable entries in the sports field. The 15-inch bronze likeness of Ruth was part of a series - limited to 550 pieces - that also featured Lou Gehrig and Jackie Robinson. It sits atop a 12-by-10-inch wooden oval base that has a 7 1/2-inch metal nameplate at the front with "George Herman 'Babe' Ruth, Inducted June 12, 1939" and is flanked by the iconic Yankees NY logo and the HOF logo as well. The statue is numbered 104/550. The entire piece appears to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition, revealing only the tiniest, almost imperceptible nicks along the edge of the wood base and which are visible only upon the most careful examination.
