This 5-inch high piece features a 2 1/2-inch in diameter crystal "baseball" with the American League logo etched on the front of the ball and a script Robert W. Brown, M.D. signature etched on the sweet spot, encircled by artistic lacing etched between the panels. The crystal ball sits atop a a 2 1/2-inch-square wood base (just over 2 inches high); the front panel of the base has a metal nameplate with "American League Pitcher of the Month, Bret Saberhagen, Kansas City Royals, August 1989." To suggest he had a successful summer would be cosmic understatement: from mid-July he went 14-1 with four shutouts and allowed more than two runs in only a single contest. He ended the year with career highs that included a 23-6 won/loss mark, a 2.16 ERA and 193 strikeouts, numbers that not surprisingly led to a second Cy Young Award for the Kansas City ace. Saberhagen has signed in bold, black Sharpie at the back of the wood base. The piece appears to be in essentially as-issued and problem-free condition. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from Bret Saberhagen.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
