Bill Knickerbocker was a shortstop whose career spanned 10 major league seasons for five different teams. Part of his tenure was with the New York Yankees from 1938 to ’40 during which time the team won back-to-back World Series titles in ’38 and ’39. This lot includes an eclectic collection of 18 black-and-white baseball photographs (mostly 8” x 10”) ranging from spring training shots taken in the 1930s to a candid 1938 shot of both Knickerbocker and then-Yankees teammate Babe Dahlgren conversing in street clothes to a team photo of the ‘38 World Series Champion New York Yankees with manager Joe McCarthy and Hall of Famers Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig quite noticeable amongst the group. This lot provides an interesting retrospective look at the great game of baseball during its golden age.
