In his lifetime, Babe Ruth signed many odd items - golf scorecards, napkins, dollar bills - but this is one of the more interesting ones: a miniature Spalding baseball. The ball appears to be a “salesman’s sample” of an Official International League Shaughnessy ball with all the stamping found on a full size version. Ever the perfectionist and despite its limited space, the Babe has perfectly signed the center of the sweet spot in blue fountain pen. The ball shows overall toning from age and a coat of shellack has been applied. Ruth’s signature is very bold and the blue ink remains quite vibrant. An interesting departure from the more common regulation-sized Ruth signed ball.
