The 1933 R309 Goudey cardboard premium of Babe Ruth is one of the most substantial of all Ruth "cards." The rarely seen easel-backed "card" presents an image of Ruthian proportions, measuring a full 5.5x8.75" This premium was available to youngsters only by mail in exchange for fifty 1933 "Big League Chewing Gum" wrappers. Already a significant collectible in it's own right, Babe Ruth added immeasurably to the appeal of this R309-1 1933 Goudey premium by placing upon it his beautiful inscription "To Johnny Fiore From Babe Ruth" in 8-9/10 vintage blue steel tip pen. The premium itself is about VG mostly due to edge wear and some minor creasing that do not affect the presentation of Ruth's salutation. The easel back stand still securely attached. The prices of Babe Ruth autographed Goudey gum cards have risen to astounding levels in recent years - often tens of thousands of dollars. Relative to the known population of Ruth signed Goudey gum cards, this Ruth signed Goudey premium is certainly equal in terms of scarcity and visual presentation.
