The bearer of this ticket stub witnessed history in the making – though he or she had no idea they did so. To the person who witnessed this August 27, 1955 game, it was merely a 7-0 Dodgers home win over the Cincinnati Reds. In the excitement of seeing Jackie Robinson and Carl Furillo belt home runs that Saturday afternoon, the bearer probably didn’t notice the rookie southpaw that went the distance for the Dodgers, Mr. Sandy Koufax. If this person sitting in Section 9 did take notice of Koufax, it was due to the 14 strikeouts the rookie racked up that afternoon. This game was Koufax’s 7th appearance that year, and it was the first win of his eventual 165-win Hall of Fame career.
The ticket stub has some paper loss on the lower front that is less severe on the back side. The seat, date, and section information are all still fully visible. Since no one in attendance that afternoon in 1955 had an inkling of the career Koufax would have, ticket stubs from his first major league win are scarce to say the least. Only eight in any grade can be found in the PSA pop report. This example has been encapsulated as Authentic by PSA.
