Flame-throwing Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg has registered double-digit victories in five of the last six MLB seasons and has already recorded more than 1,200 K’s since entering the league in 2010. This lot features one of his game-worn Washington National home jerseys from his injury-shortened 2011 campaign. On August 27, 2010, the Nationals announced that Strasburg had a torn ulnar collateral ligament, requiring Tommy John
surgery and 12-18 months of rehab. He made it back to the Big Club on Sept. 6, 2011, and finished off the year with 24 K's in 24 innings while allowing just four earned runs. After back-to-back 15-4 seasons in 2016 and 2017, Stras has put to rest those previous injury concerns and has become a reliable ace for the Nats. He currently sits tied for 2nd all-time (along with Chris Sale) in Strikeouts per 9 innings (10.54), trailing only the great Randy Johnson. In his two most recent starts against the defending World Champion Cubs in the 2017 NLDS, Stras was virtually un-hittable, allowing no earned runs while striking out 22 in 14 innings.
The offered Majestic Authentic Collection jersey (size 52), which Strasburg wore on Sept. 23, 2011, versus the Atlanta Braves, includes proper manufacturer’s tagging on the left front tail. Showing moderate wear through the four innings he pitched that day, the jersey sports a “W” in red tackle twill script outlined in navy blue across the left chest as well as his uniform number ”37” in similar tackle twill fashion on the right chest. For the record, Strasburg struck out three while giving up five hits and four runs and took the loss. The Washington National embroidered patch adorns the left sleeve and the official red, white and blue embroidered MLB patch is located on the outside rear collar. His last name – “STRASBURG” – appears arched across the shoulders in red tackle twill outlined in blue, positioned above his uniform number “37,” which stretches eight inches tall. Some slight staining appears on the front and back of the jersey.
